Most JumpStart games consist primarily of an array of different activities, which usually take the form of educational mini-games.

Please note that for the purpose of this wiki, "activity" refers solely to the mini-games within a JumpStart game, and not to any printable activities, and that the term "game" refers to the entire software product, not individual mini-games.

Characteristics[]

Activities are usually accessed by clicking on an item or location available from a "main screen"; some games have a single main screen while others have multiple screens from which to access activities. In 3D environment games, such as World of JumpStart or JumpStart Spy Masters, generally the user must guide their avatar (such as a Jumpee) to a certain area to access the activity. In most games, users may choose different activities freely, but others have a more linear structure in which users must progress in a certain order, such as JumpStart Adventures 5th Grade: Jo Hammet, Kid Detective.

In the vast majority of games, playing activities enables the user to progress in the game, usually by awarding points or items that will enable the player to achieve the game objectives, such as the activities in JumpStart Adventures 3rd Grade: Mystery Mountain awarding the player Mission Clues and Invention Points that they need to access the Time Machine.

Activities can take a wide variety of forms, but most activities in JumpStart games provide some form of educational value. Essentially, most activities take a question that one might be asked in school or homework, but presents it in the form of a game. Other activities are more oriented around creative expression, such as the many variants of the paint set.

Activities usually have difficulty levels.
