JumpStart Color and Shape Card Game is a card game released by Briarpatch in 2000. It is designed to teach colors and shapes at a preschool level.

Characters[]

Description[]

The deck contains a total of 50 cards. Two of the cards are merely instructional and explain three ways to play with the cards, which are described as difficulty levels. The other 48 cards have colors and/or shapes on them. There are three difficulty levels. Six cards feature Kisha and each represent one shape. Six cards feature Eleanor and each represent one color. These 12 cards are referred to as category cards. The remaining 36 cards each have one color and one shape, such as a yellow star or red circle. These 36 cards are referred to as attribute cards. The basic objective is to create sets cards with matching attributes (either the same color, or the same shape).

Difficulty levels[]

Level 1[]

This level suggests three different games. Game #1 says to remove the six Eleanor cards and practice matching the attribute cards with Kisha's shape cards only, then do the reverse next time by taking away Kisha's cards and only matching the attribute cards with Eleanor's color cards. Game #2 says to lay out all of the Kisha shape cards in a row, and lay out all of the Eleanor color cards in a column, so that the two groups form the top and side of a grid. Then the attribute cards can be placed in the proper places to complete the grid. Game #3 says to remove the Eleanor and Kisha cards, and just play Go Fish the attribute cards. Before starting, one attribute should be specified, either shapes or colors. Then players will take turns asking for shapes or colors, depending on which one was selected beforehand.

Level 2[]

This level is inspired by Go Fish. The objective is to collect sets of four cards that consist of one category card and three attribute cards that go with it. For example, a Kisha heart card could be matched with a red heart, a yellow heart, and a blue heart. An Eleanor purple card could be matched with a purple star, a purple circle, and a purple triangle. The rest of the game plays similarly to a normal game of Go Fish. At the end of the game, the player with the most matches wins.

Level 3[]

This level is inspired by Rummy. The objective is to be the first player to get of all of the cards in your hand. You can make matches of cards or play a card off of another player's set. A set is made up of one category card and at least two attribute cards that match it. The rest of the gam plays similarly to a normal game of Rummy.
