Power prep set

JumpStart Power Prep is a series of interactive DVD games produced by Blue Monkey Studios and bEqual and released by Knowledge Adventure in 2006. This game was produced using Alias Maya 3D animation software.

There are three versions for 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 4th Grade.

It consists of a quiz-show style game hosted by Polly Sparks in which 1-4 players must answer grade-appropriate questions about reading, writing, and arithmetic. The DVDs are designed to help students prepare for standardized tests. It also features test-taking tips and short educational videos.

Gameplay[]

The game is played with a DVD remote. At the start of the game, the user must choose the number of players. Each game consists of 4 rounds of 5 questions each. At the start of each round, the player must choose a category. The player is then given multiple-choice questions that require using the remote to select an answer. Each time the player answers a question, a clip of Polly doing something plays. Whenever the player gets a question right, Polly will congratulate them (though often in a way that focuses more on her own brilliance); whenever they get a question wrong, Polly will give them a test-taking tip. Once the player has answered the questions, they will be given a "prize" consisting of a brief educational video clip.

If there is more than one player, the game will ask the player to hand the remote to the next player at the start of the next round. At the end of all the regular rounds, if a multiplayer game is being played, a bar graph (made out of tubes of liquid) displaying the number of questions each player got right will be displayed.

After four rounds of multiple-choice questions are completed, a "special round" with different rules rather than normal quiz questions will be played. For example, in one version, various pairs of words will be displayed, and the player must press the Enter button whenever two words are displayed that are homophones. If there is more than one player, each player will get the opportunity to play such a round.

Trivia[]

  • On some of the monitors behind Polly, scenes from JumpStart PreK-1st Grade: Frankie's Field Trip can sometimes be seen.
  • Botley is sometimes mentioned in questions or dialogue. Unknown characters named Bug and Mrs. Speck are also referenced multiple times. None of these characters are seen. "Mrs. Speck" seems to be treated as the name of Polly's teacher, which would seem to ignore the fact that she was already established as Ms. Winkle, though it's possible Polly has moved up from 3rd Grade by the point of this game and thus has a new teacher.
  • Some references are made to JumpStart Adventures 3rd Grade: Mystery Mountain, such as mentioning the Biosphere, and alluding to Polly living with many different robots designed for specific tasks. Polly also mentions her dad, presumably Professor Sparks, although he is not mentioned by name.
